Hurezi Monastery was erected between 1690 and 1693, the great church being consecrated on September 8, 1693. The village which housed it was in possession of the Brâncoveni even before C. Brancoveanu ascended the throne and it is still the largest monastic foundation in Romania, a remarkable achievement of the Brancovan art.
